Preparing Your Quilt to be Longarm Quilted
With your collaboration in the preparation process, Village Stitchery can ensure the
quickest turnaround and the highest artistic outcome possible for your quilt.
To maintain our quality standards and consistent scheduling, projects requiring remedial
preparation (listed below) will incur a Studio Preparation Fee of $30 per hour. This time is
dedicated to the specialized prep needed to manifest your artistic vision
in the best way possible on the longarm machine.
Quilt Top
___ Squared up so that both sides are equal and top and bottom are equal
___ Top marked with a safety pin
___ Pressed
___ Threads on back clipped so they don't show through
___ Check for wavy borders which could result in puckering or pleating during quilting process
___ If the rest of the quilt does not lay flat, you may want to check to make sure all seams have been caught in the seam allowance
___ If there is no border, stay stitching around the perimeter of the quilt top will help prevent seams from coming apart, as well as, prevent stretching out of square while on the quilt frame
___ Pieced and cut to required size of: length of quilt top + 10" and width of quilt top + 10" or just cut to required size if one continuous piece such as a wide backing (108", 112", etc.).
___ Selvages trimmed off as they prevent the fabric from laying flat
___ Any seams pressed OPEN
___ Top marked with safety pin
___ Pressed
___ Quilter's Dream cotton, polyester, cotton poly blend and wool can be purchased from Village Stitchery
___ If you choose to provide your own batting, please get it approved ahead of time as not all brands are of acceptable quality to be maneuvered on the longarm frame
___ Batting cut to required size of: length of quilt top plus 8" and width of quilt top plus 8"
____If you have arranged for Village Stitchery to bind your quilt for you, please have the binding cut, pieced and pressed ready for attaching to your quilt
